Summer Activities

Safe & Sound's summer programmes offer positive activities to young people who are victims of, or are at risk of becoming victims of, sexual exploitation.

This year the programme included:

  • self-esteem workshops
  • a visit to Twycross Zoo
  • baking
  • art and creativity workshops at Quad
  • the Derby ghost walk (some of the staff are still recovering from the fright!) and
  • the complusory Alton Towers trip

Despite the weather conspiring against most of the outside events a great time was had by staff and young people alike.

For the first time this year Safe & Sound Derby were able to offer similar activities to parents and carers of sexually exploited young people, thanks to funding for our Parent Workers.

The parents enjoyed a dance workshop, and they too braved the Ghost Walk!  As well as receiving indivdual support, parents also meet here at Safe & Sound regularly for coffee mornings and other social events.  Meeting others who are affected by their child's exploitation can help to reduce the feeling of isolation described to us by many parents and carers supported by Safe & Sound.
